UPDATE: I think it prudent to make clear - this is in no way an official NEWSVINE project. In no way am I working with or for any part of the NV staff, Newsvine as a company, MSNBC or any subsidiaries... it is mine in responsibility and idea - wholly. All authors will retain rights to their original works, images, and designs.
We're almost done, and there isn't anything the general community has left to do but wait. All of the polling is complete and the basic layout is finished on my end. All that's left for me to do is compile, convert, and finish up getting permissions. But it is an opportune time to go back over what has been done, and what choices we've made so that you guys have a much clearer picture of how it's going to turn out.
We've decided that the book profits will go to the American Red Cross, and that the profits will be 10% of the base price. So if the book costs $50 base price, the total book price (before shipping and so on) would be +10% (or $55) with $5 going to the American Red Cross. The way Blurb is set up, profit checks are sent out if the monthly profit meets or exceeds $25, so in the aforementioned case, only 5 books need to sell for a check to be sent to the charity. If there is not $25 earned, the profits roll over each month until there is. A book has 15 days to sell - if none sell the book is taken down to make room on the Blurb servers for other books (but I can re-upload the book as many times as I like). Every time a book sells, the 15 day count restarts (and again, I can re-upload the book upon request or at my discretion)
One of the great things about this book is that there is not going to be such thing as a 'bad' article. This represents what we as a community felt was the best of the best. We chose what we felt were great articles individually, and then voted upon them as a group. The top four articles in each section with a poll are going to be printed. Sections with exactly 4 nominations or less, had all nominated articles automatically printed. Here is a glimpse at the TOC (with abridged titles, but the full title will be written out in the book). I'll go ahead and say it now, the order in which articles appear in their section or the oder in which sections appear are as such because that's how I felt the would be in best logical order. It isn't listed in order of most to least votes, or what I like more or less than another.

Very cool, Shawn. Thanks for putting the time and effort into this!
Shoot me an email when I can pick one up.
Get Calvin to put something out on the blog and or frontpage.
Its an important community event, its not like you're making any money off of it.
Wow, I'm very flattered by this. Thanks very much. I'll be active again real soon.
ah, my strategy worked!
(insert cackling sound here)
Well, I'm going back to school in January to become a chemical dependency specialist. This means I had to quit the women's pro tackle football team that I made it onto. So I DO have some things to write about. Just gotta organize my thoughts on it all.
